What changed in 2026
- 19 June 2026Online withdrawal function becomes mandatory (Directive (EU) 2023/2673): a "withdraw from contract here" button, a confirmation step and an automatic e-mail acknowledgement with date and time.
- 27 September 2026Generic environmental claims, uncertified sustainability badges and offset-based "climate neutral" claims become banned practices (Directive (EU) 2024/825). New durability, repair and software-update information duties.
- Since 2022Lowest 30-day prior price for discounts, and saying how you check reviews (Directive (EU) 2019/2161).
- National rulesEach EU country writes these directives into national law and sets its own fines. Several countries were late and face Commission infringement cases, so check your country's status.

Does this apply to small shops?
Yes. The rules apply to every trader selling online to consumers, whatever its size. There is no micro-enterprise exemption.
My platform already added the button. Am I done?
Probably not. Check the label, the confirmation step and the automatic e-mail with date and time. Green claims, badges, discounts and reviews depend on your own texts, not the platform.
Can I still say "eco" or "sustainable"?
Only if you can show recognised excellent environmental performance, such as the EU Ecolabel, or if the claim is specific and specified on the same medium. Offset-based "climate neutral" claims are banned in all cases.
What happens to the text I paste?
Nothing: it is not sent anywhere. The text is analysed in your browser, and audit answers are stored only locally in that browser.
Is this legal advice?
No. It is an information tool based on the EU directives. National transpositions differ; for specific cases, ask a lawyer.
